Tennessee Laws

  • Car insurance in the state of Tennessee is mandatory in all states and is required at the time of registering your vehicle at the Department of Motor Vehicles. The minimum liability coverage in Tennessee is $25,000 for injury or death of one person and $50,000 for injury or death of more than one person. The minimum property damage coverage is $10,000.

  • Tennessee follows a Tort system. This means that the state of North Carolina does not require its drivers to purchase Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage nor Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage (UN/UIM).

  • The statute of limitations is the period for which you are eligible to file the insurance claim and lawsuit. If it expires, you lose the benefits that you deserve to obtain from the party responsible for causing the car accident. You can file a personal injury claim within 1 year of the car accident, and a property damage claim within 3 years.

  • Tennessee adopts a modified comparative fault at 50% policy. That means that if an injured person is less than 50% at fault for the accident, he is entitled to compensation. If the injured party is 50% or more at fault, he or she is not entitled to recovery for the injury
