Atypical measles syndrome (AMS)

AMS is an altered form of measles found in people who were immunized with a killed measles vaccine (that is no longer available in the United States). This syndrome has different symptoms than those of typical measles that begin with sudden high fever, headache, cough and abdominal pain. The measles rash may not even appear until 1 to 2 days later, usually starting on the hands and feet. The infection can worsen within the onset of pneumonia.
