Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a type of cancer that most often develops in the salivary glands of the head and neck. It has also been known to arise in other areas including the skin, breast, cervix and prostate. ACC tumors are characterized by a distinctive pattern in which abnormal cords of epithelial cells surround ducts or glandular structures within the affected organ. These structures are typically filled with a mucous-like material or contain abnormal fibrous membranes (hyaline membranes).
