Achromatopsia is a rare medical syndrome that affects a person’s vision. A person with achromatopsia, commonly referred to as an “achromat,” often has color blindness, low visual acuity and light sensitivity. The disorder is due to a lack of cone vision. A person with normal vision has 6 million cone receptors in their eyes. A person with a lack of cone receptors has to rely on rod receptors which saturate at high levels of illumination and do not provide color vision.
